About
Damyan Doumanov (b. 2002, Bulgaria) is a visual artist who works primarily with photography and analog media.
Starting in 2021, he has been studying fine arts and photography under Prof. Gabriele Rothmann at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, Austria. A passion for analog photographic processes lead him to spend a lot of time in the darkroom. Later during his studies, he developed an interest in bookmaking and combining analog media into visual compositions. Along with darkroom printing, he further developed his skills in screen printing, graphic design and bookbinding.
In 2024 he moved to Istanbul and continued his studies in photography at Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts in Istanbul, Turkey. There he developed projects and experimented with new print-making techniques.
His work explores the intersection of image and theory through experiments with print media, photographic copies, and collages. He has also begun self-publishing limited-edition books and magazines. His projects are often inspired by environments, design and research in photographic theory.© Boyan Krivoshiev, Mas Matbaa Istanbul, 2025
