About

Damyan Doumanov (b. 2002 Sofia, Bulgaria) is a visual artist whose practice centers on the evolution of the photobook as a distinct art form. Working at the intersection of photography, printmaking, and exhibition design, he investigates the complex relationships between the image, the printed page, and spatial presentation. His work is defined by the interplay of hands-on artistic practice with theoretical research into the photographic medium.

Doumanov currently studies and serves as a teaching assistant in the photography department at the Institute of Fine Arts at the Universität für Angewandte Kunst in Vienna, Austria. Between 2024 and 2025, he participated in an academic exchange at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul, Turkey, where he significantly expanded his understanding of global photographic history and contemporary practices. During this period, he conceptualized and developed several foundational personal projects that profoundly shaped his current methodology. To further hone his technical expertise in independent publishing and print production, he completed professional internships in 2025 at the renowned Mas Matbaa print house in Istanbul and The Bakery Photo Collective in Portland, United States.
